There is a better solution for removing unwanted hair

You may be surprised to learn that virtually your entire body is covered with hair. Because most of this hair is fine and pale, it usually isn’t visible to the naked eye. When darker, coarser hair appears in places which may make you feel uncomfortable – like on the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, legs or underarms for women or on the shoulders, chest and back for men, it may be time to consider hair removal with the Smooth’s LightSheer DUET.

Understanding Hair Removal

In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair included plucking, shaving, waxing or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy, and all are only temporary. For long-term hair removal, electrolysis is popular and effective, but it is a time-consuming procedure which can be painful and is useful only in removing hair in small areas. During electrolysis, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy each individual hair root. It typically takes months and numerous regular visits to remove hair in even small areas like the upper lip. Laser hair removal is a more effective solution. The High Speed LightSheer DUET laser system uses state-of-the-art diode lasers with vacuum-assist technology to effectively remove unwanted hair with greater speed and comfort than other methods.

Laser Hair Removal

About Smooth's LightSheer DUET Laser Treatment

Vacuum-Laser
Vacuum-assist technology and the large spot size make hair removal fast and comfortable, without the need for topical anesthetics and gels

The High Speed LightSheer DUET is a laser that produces a larger beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted is well-absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light and heat up. As it heats up, the hair shaft and bulb are damaged which significantly impedes its ability to re-grow. And with the large spot size, the process treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously, making the treatment significantly faster than traditional laser hair removal alternatives. An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-cooling hand piece allows your technician to treat even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during, and after each laser pulse, while directing the laser energy to the hair root.

The LightSheer DUET laser system offers your technician two handpiece choices depending on your needs. The LightSheer High Speed handpiece uses breakthrough vacuum assisted technology in combination with diode laser light to allow rapid and comfortable treatment of large areas. A back or the legs can now be treated in 15 to 20 minutes, without the need for topical numbing creams. The LightSheer DUET laser system also offers your technician the gold standard LightSheer ETTM handpiece with ChillTip® cooling for smaller areas. The LightSheer DUET allows your technician to customize treatment for your hair type, skin type and lifestyle.

How it works

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted by the LightSheer diode laser is well absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles (Fig. 1). Prior to the procedure, the treatment area is shaved (Fig. 2). During the procedure the upper layer of the skin is compressed and cooled with the special cooling handpiece (Fig. 3). This procedure protects the skin and makes the procedure more effective. Then the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to heat up the hair and destroy the follicle’s ability to re-grow (Fig. 4). The result: permanent hair reduction in the treated area.

What can you expect

The length of a laser treatment may last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments to achieve the best results. This is because the laser works most effectively when hairs are in an early growth stage (referred to as anagen), and all the hairs are not in this phase at the same time. The laser treatment itself may cause some discomfort. Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option. The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which are in fact desired clinical results and indicate the follicle has responded to the treatment. Most people return to normal activity right away. We will be happy to tell you more about your treatment, possible side effects and what results you can expect during your consultation.

FAQ

Lumenis®LightSheer®Hair Reduction solution

In the past, methods for hair removal included plucking, shaving, waxing, electrolysis and chemical depilatories. These methods can be painful, messy, time-consuming, and costly.

Lumenis®LightSheer®Hair Reduction solution

The Lumenis®LightSheer® family of permanent hair reduction products offers unparalleled treatment speed and efficacy with optimal patient comfort. LightSheer® is more than 75% faster than the average hair reduction session, and also features the unique HIT™ and ChillTip™ technologies for pain relief. Additionally, LightSheer® is a smart economical choice, saving you money spent on temporary hair removal solutions. Ask your physician today about LightSheer® and how it can help you reach the results you desire.

When will I see results?

Multiple treatments are required to achieve permanent hair reduction. This is due to the increased effect of the laser on hair in the early growth stage (anagen). Not all the hairs are in the same stage at a given time.

What can I expect after treatment?

The appearance of the treated area following treatment varies from patient to patient, depending on the characteristics of the patient and treatment given. During the treatment, some hairs will shed from the follicle immediately, while the remaining will shed in the following weeks. Transient redness and swelling around the hair follicle may appear immediately after the treatment, but are, in fact, positive results, indicating the follicle’s response to the treatment. Following the treatment, you will be provided with guidelines, namely in terms of sun exposure.

LightSheer® Laser System

The LightSheer® uses a state-of-the-art 805nm diode laser, which ensures safety for all skin types. Repeated laser pulses target existing hair, creating a direction of energy into the hair follicles that prevent future growth. The LightSheer® allows your physician to truly customize treatment for your hair type, skin type and lifestyle by utilizing 2 different handpieces and technologies.

HIT™ technology

The High-Speed Integrated Technology (HIT™) incorporates suction to elevate and stretch the skin. In doing so, the laser achieves maximum absorption into hair follicles and fast coverage of large areas, which minimize the sensation of heat.

With HIT™, the vacuum gently draws skin into the handpiece, stretching it thin and pulling the target closer to the energy source.
With HIT™, the vacuum gently draws skin into the handpiece, stretching it thin and pulling the target closer to the energy source.

ChillTip™ technology

The ChillTip™ technology uses a proprietary cooling system to momentarily numb the skin to minimize pain, while compressing the handpiece to the skin to rotate the follicle and enable better results.

With ChillTip™, the skin is cooled before and during treatment. It is then compressed and the laser beam is directed to the skin.

FAQ

How do I know if I’m a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing works on many skin types, including very light and very dark skin. Different resurfacing options can knock out the deepest wrinkles, improve the most challenging scars, and help correct a wide variety of other skin imperfections. Your provider will discuss treatment options with you.

How does it work?
Your provider uses a fractional laser from the company that invented and patented micro-fractional laser technology. Fractional skin resurfacing with Palomar uses laser energy microbeams to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the epidermis into the dermis. The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in healthier, younger skin.

How long does treatment take?
Most treatments last no more than an hour. Depending on the condition being treated, your provider may recommend a single treatment session or a series of progressive treatments for your best results.

How quickly will I recover?
Usually you may resume your regular activities the same day following some treatments; more aggressive procedures may require several days of healing. Ask your provider about what you can expect from your treatment.

Does it hurt?
Depending on the options your provider selects, most people feel minimal discomfort during and after the treatment. In some cases, your provider may recommend mild pain management options during the procedure and/or for a few days following the treatment.

What can I expect after treatment?
Depending upon the treatment option your provider recommends, you can expect to experience a temporary redness, warmth, and swelling at the treatment site, which typically lasts only a few days. In other cases, some post-care wound management may be necessary for a few days following treatment. Your provider will discuss potential side effects and your post-treatment expectations with you based on the type of treatment you’ll receive.

Botox®

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most extensively
studied medical aesthetic treatments and
is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries

About

BTXC-color

Botox®, or onabotulinumtoxinA, is a purified protein that is delivered via microneedle injection into muscles of the face to reduce their movement for up to 3 months at a time. It has been used safely and effectively for many years. Botox®, by Allergan, is the most commonly performed non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the U.S.

Muscles of the face move the overlying skin causing dynamic wrinkles that, with time, become fixed wrinkles. Botox® causes these muscles to weaken, making some wrinkles disappear and others appear softer. Common areas treated include the "11's" (glabella), "crow's feet" (smile lines), forehead lines, droopy eyebrows, "bunny lines" (nose wrinkles), "smoker's lines" around the mouth, chin puckering, and neck bands. We recommend treatment every 3 months for one year to weaken the muscles long-term and maximize the anti-aging effect of the treatment. Botox® can be combined with injectible filler treatments, laser treatments, and skin care for maximal facial aesthetic improvement.

FAQ

What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Botox® is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults.

Botox® is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries.* Botox® has a record of experience that aesthetic providers know and trust. The safety and efficacy of Botox® have been evaluated in both Allergan sponsored clinical trials as well as in 417 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals.

Botox® contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among botulinum toxin products, which means that one product cannot take the place of another. Those are a few reasons why there is no such thing as a “generic” form of Botox®. There have been no studies to support that other products are unit-to-unit equivalent to Botox®.

Approximately 10.9 million vials of Botox® have been sold in the United States since 2002, and millions of people have already made Botox® a part of their lives. Today, Botox® is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world.†
*VISTABEL® outside of North America.
†Data collected through June 2014.

How does Botox® Cosmetic work?

Botox® targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your provider will inject these muscles with Botox® to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.

Will Botox® Cosmetic make me look like I’ve had work done?

Botox® is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. It is important to talk to your provider about the results you want from treatment.

Does Botox® Cosmetic treatment hurt?

Some patients report that being injected with Botox® feels like a pinch. Your provider may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you are concerned about discomfort, your provider may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

What were common side effects seen in clinical studies?

Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies and one percent of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow's feet studies. Other possible side effects include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems; double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes; and allergic reactions. These are not all of the possible serious side effects of Botox®. Please see the Important Safety Information including Boxed Warning and Medication Guide, and talk to your doctor.

How long does the treatment take?

Your provider will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatments for you. The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes.

What is the average treatment cost?

Your cost not only includes the price of the product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of the doctor or healthcare professional who is administering your treatment. Botox® is a technique-sensitive treatment—look for someone who is licensed and trained and has experience treating patients with Botox®. Be wary of discount products or “cheap” Botox®—if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

It is more important to find an experienced provider who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.

How can I save on treatments?

Enroll in the Brilliant Distinctions® Rewards Program to save money on Botox® treatments. You earn points on each Botox® treatment that you can redeem for savings on future treatments. You can also earn and redeem points on other selected treatments that your doctor may determine are right for you.

In addition, you can also earn points when you shop online at your favorite retailers participating in the Brilliant Distinctions® Mall. As a member you will receive treatment reminders and information about your points balance.
https://www.brilliantdistinctionsprogram.com/

When will I see results?

You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months.

How many injections will I receive?

For the crow’s feet area, your provider will inject 3 areas of the orbicularis oculi, the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This will be repeated on the orbicularis oculi muscle on the other eye.

For the frown lines area, your provider will administer 5 injections into muscles in your forehead—1 in the procerus muscle and 4 in the corrugator muscles.

How long is the recovery time after treatment?

After your treatment, you can resume your day. There is minimal downtime and your provider may give you specific aftercare instructions.

Do men receive Botox® Cosmetic treatment?

Yes. Botox® has also been clinically evaluated in male patients. In clinical studies for moderate to severe frown lines, 17.5% of patients treated with Botox® were men. In the clinical studies for moderate to severe crow's feet, male patients comprised approximately 10% of patients treated with Botox®.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 10% of all cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2014 were on men—that is more than 1 million cosmetic procedures. The number of cosmetic procedures for men increased by 273% from 1997 to 2014.

What is hyaluronic acid (HA)?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found on your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds.

What are the different types of wrinkles?
There are two different types of wrinkles:

  • Dynamic wrinkles are caused when muscles contract to make facial expressions such as smiles and frowns.
  • Static wrinkles develop because our skin's natural substances (such as collagen and hyaluronic acid), which provide structure and volume, decrease over time.

What should I discuss with my doctor before getting treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC?
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of excessive scarring or pigmentation disorders. You should also discuss any medications that you are currently taking that can prolong bleeding, or any therapy used to decrease the body's immune response.

What makes JUVÉDERM® XC different from other dermal fillers?

FAQ

Skin Care

What skin types would benefit from SkinMedica® skin care products?
There are SkinMedica® products that are formulated to be used on all skin types and most skin conditions including sensitive and post-procedure skin. We recommend you always ask your physician which products and regimen will best address your skin type and concerns.

What is "photodamage"?
Photodamage to the skin is caused by exposure to harmful ultraviolet light. Photodamage can be acute, as in sunburn, or more commonly, chronic, due to gradual changes in the skin caused by an accumulation of sun exposure throughout one’s life. Sun exposure is by far the most influential environmental factor affecting aging of the skin.

What are the causes of wrinkles?
Lines and wrinkles are caused by degenerative changes in the proteins of the skin’s infrastructure such as loss of stored antioxidants and reduction in collagen. Wrinkles are also caused by movement of the skin resulting in creases over time.

What are the causes of age spots?
Age spots are also known as sun spots or solar lentigines. Age spots are associated with cumulative sun exposure. Sun spots mostly appear in areas consistently exposed to sunlight such as the back of the hands, the forearms, neck, chest and face. The pigment-producing cells in the skin (melanocytes) are stimulated to produce more pigment when exposed to ultraviolet rays.

How can I maintain the health of my skin?
Using sun protection and appropriate skin care products containing specialty ingredients is essential in maintaining healthy skin.

What role does my physician play in my skin care regimen?
Just as your physician plays an important role in your overall health, he or she also plays a key role in helping you maintain healthy skin. With any skin care regimen it’s important to consult with your dermatologist or skin care specialist. He or she can analyze your skin care routine, tell you what’s working and determine what you can do to further enhance the health and beauty of your skin.

Which product(s) should I use after having a procedure?
Always ask your physician for the appropriate products to use after a procedure since the regimen may differ depending on the type of procedure you received.

Are your products safe to use if I have rosacea?
Rosacea is a medical condition. Skin care regimens for patients diagnosed with rosacea or any other medical condition should be left to a physician’s discretion. We recommend consulting your physician to learn what SkinMedica® products are best for you.

Are your products safe to use while pregnant? Or while lactating?
We have not done any product testing on pregnant women or nursing mothers. We recommend you consult your physician before using any SkinMedica® products during pregnancy or while breast feeding.

Do you recommend refrigerating your products to maintain the quality?
No, it is not necessary to refrigerate our products. SkinMedica® skin care products should be stored at room temperature – 59-86°F (15-30°C).

Do you test your products on animals?
No, SkinMedica® does not conduct product testing on animals.

FAQ

What is microdermabrasion?

Dermaglow+II+-+12JUN2007Microdermabrasion, often referred to as microderm, is a cosmetic procedure popular in day spas, doctor’s practices, medical spas, and salons. During a microdermabrasion treatment, the dead, outermost surface of the skin is partially or completely removed by light abrasion to reveal glowing, younger-looking skin below.
The most popular and effective method of microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide crystals, although the procedure can also be done with sodium bicarbonate crystals or with no crystals at all.
The stainless steel hand piece on our microdermabrasion devises sends a gentle stream of crystals toward the skin and vacuums of the removed dead skin cells and excess particles.
Known as the “lunchtime facial”, microdermabrasion is not a painful and requires no anesthetic; additionally, its only post procedure side effect is a pinkish skin tone which usually disappears within a few minutes or hours depending on the degree of abrasion that took place.

Why should I choose microdermabrasion?

Age, sun, diet and the environment are a few factors that lead to skin deterioration on the face and other parts of the body. Now with DERMAGLOW® particle skin exfoliation technology, there is a safe and gentle way to help to rejuvenate, smooth and repair your skin. This form of microdermabrasion has been adopted as the treatment of choice in the United States, making it the most requested non-surgical procedure.

Who should get microdermabrasion?

The DERMAGLOW® particle skin exfoliation treatment is ideal for both men and woman seeking to turn back the effect of time and desiring healthy, younger- looking skin.

Is it safe and effective?
Yes, the DERMAGLOW® procedure has been shown to be safe and effective for cosmetic reduction of:

• Sun-Damage skin
• Acne/Acne scars

D2 MicroDermWhat should I expect?

Most people see dramatic results after one DERMAGLOW® treatment. However, for optimal results, your skin care professional may recommend a series for your specific needs that will include a designated number of treatments and the time intervals between each treatment.

What to expect post treatment?

Immediately following the DERMAGLOW® treatment, residual microcrystals are brushed off and the area is cleansed and rinsed. A soothing moisturizing agent with sunscreen is then applied to help protect the skin. A slight windburn may be experienced. You can return to your daily activities immediately after the treatment.
