There is a better solution for removing unwanted hair
You may be surprised to learn that virtually your entire body is covered with hair. Because most of this hair is fine and pale, it usually isn’t visible to the naked eye. When darker, coarser hair appears in places which may make you feel uncomfortable – like on the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, legs or underarms for women or on the shoulders, chest and back for men, it may be time to consider hair removal with the Smooth’s LightSheer DUET.
Understanding hair removal
In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair included plucking, shaving, waxing or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy and all are only temporary. For long-term hair removal, electrolysis is popular and effective, but it is a time-consuming procedure; which can be painful and is useful only in removing hair in small areas. During electrolysis, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy each individual hair root. It typically takes months and numerous regular visits to remove hair in even small areas like the upper lip.
Laser hair removal is a more effective solution. The High Speed LightSheer DUET Laser System uses state-of-the-art diode lasers with vacuum-assist technology to effectively remove unwanted hair with greater speed and comfort than other methods.
About Smooth’s LightSheer DUET laser treatment
The High Speed LightSheer DUET is a laser that produces a larger beam of highly concen- trated light. The light emitted is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light and heat up. As it heats up the hair shaft and bulb are damaged which significantly impedes its ability to re-grow. And with the large spot size, the process treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously, making the treatment significantly faster than traditional laser hair removal alternatives.
An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-cooling hand piece allows your technician to treat even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.
topical anesthetics and gels.
The LightSheer DUET Laser System offers your technician two handpiece choices depending on your needs. The LightSheer High Speed handpiece uses breakthrough vacuum assisted technology in combination with diode laser light to allow rapid and comfortable treatment of large areas. A back or legs can now be treated in 15 to 20 minutes, without the need for topical numbing creams. The LightSheer DUET Laser System also offers your technician the gold standard LightSheer ETTM handpiece with ChillTip® cooling for smaller areas. The LightSheer DUET allows your technician to customize treatment for your hair type, skin type and lifestyle.
How it works
A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted by the LightSheer diode laser is well absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles (Fig. 1). Prior to the procedure, the treatment area is shaved (Fig. 2). During the procedure the upper layer of the skin is compressed and cooled with the special cooling handpiece (Fig. 3). This procedure protects skin and makes the procedure more effective. Then the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to heat up the hair and destroy the follicle’s ability to re-grow (Fig. 4). The result: permanent hair reduction in the treated area.
What can you expect?
The length of a laser treatment may last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments to achieve the best results. This is because the laser works most effectively when hairs are in an early growth stage (referred to as anagen), and all the hairs are not in this phase at the same time.
The laser treatment itself may cause some discomfort. Most patients tolerate the procedure well, but because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option.
The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which are in fact desired clinical results and indicate the follicle has responded to the treatment. Most people return to normal activity right away. We will be happy to tell you more about your treatment, possible side effects and what results you can expect during your consultation.
